The test is suitable for all those who suffer from long-lasting problems such as hoarseness, coughing, excessive phlegm discharge, sensations of having a lump in the throat, coughing attacks, or tooth enamel erosion. The test detects the presence of the enzyme pepsin in saliva, which can indicate seepage of gastric acid into the esophagus. This is physiological to some extent, but frequent occurrence may result in damage of the mucosa in the pharynx, larynx, and nose. This may result in chronic inflammation, which is manifested by sore throat, sinusitis, voice disorders, dry cough, sensations of a lump in the throat, excessive phlegm discharge, and an unpleasant odour from the mouth. The test is suitable to everyone regardless of age.
A peptest is an undemanding test. Pick up a sampling set with instructions at the selected blood collection point and bring back your saliva sample the next day.
The collection is made after a night’s sleep, but please do so before eating, drinking, or brushing your teeth. Do not smoke before the collection. You need to be in an upright position when collecting. Please avoid the consumption of alkaline water, antacid, and medicaments with alginate (i.e. Gaviscon) for 48 hours before the collection.
